Walking your dog in summer: do's & don'ts for hot days

Summer days invite you to long walks, also with your dog. But high temperatures can quickly become dangerous for four-legged friends. In this blog you can read what you should and should not do during hot days.

Do: Choose the right time
Go for a walk early in the morning or later in the evening. In the middle of the day, the asphalt is blazing hot and the sun can be dangerously bright. Test the road surface with your hand: if it's too hot for your hand, it's also too hot for your dog's paws.

Don't: Force your dog to come along
Is your dog not in the mood, panting excessively or walking slowly? Listen to those signals. Don't force anything; sometimes rest is more important than exercise.

Do: Always take water with you
Make sure you have fresh drinking water on the go. There are handy travel bottles and collapsible containers that you can easily take with you.

Don't: Let your dog off the lead in unfamiliar areas
In hot weather dogs seek cooling – and therefore water. Prevent him from jumping into a ditch or river uncontrollably. Stay in control.

Do: Customize your accessories
Choose light, breathable materials. Jaap & Co harnesses and collars are specially designed with comfort and style in mind.

Summer walks can be wonderful, as long as you are well prepared. Adjust your rhythm, keep cool and enjoy together!
